Default Question for OEM Hardtop Owners

Hi to any OEM Hardtop owners. I've had my hardtop for a few months now and I've been doing adjustments on it. I've got it fitting well overall but I have one small concern.

I initially found it difficult to get the front latches to pull down hard enough on the front connectors and I was getting some rattling. I think I've got it down tight now after some adjustments and shimming. The only thing is that the top of the door glass comes pretty close to the side metal molding of the hardtop (black metal pieces). When I close the doors with the windows up the top of the windows seem to rub a tiny bit on the metal molding. It doesn't seem like a huge problem at the moment but I wouldn't want it to rub any harder than it does right now. I don't see any adjustments in the hardtop service manual section to adjust the top much more than I have. I dont' want to raise up the front latch area any more than it is as it will start rattling again. Does anyone else see this on their hardtop ?, just wondering if it is normal. thanks for any replies on this, and taking the time to read my post.

Joey

thanks for all of the replies thus far guys. Good to hear that I'm not the only person with the issue. I ended up shimming the striker plates and pulling shims from under the latches in order to get the hood tight enough to end the rattles. Mine is now rattle free but in order to do that I've pulled down the front of the roof to the point where the metal moulding touches the top of the glass. The problem is mostly on the driver side, the passenger side is really close but it doesn't seem to touch very much. I've adjusted the roof dozens of times according to the proper procedure but it still seems to occur. It's not bad enough to worry about I don't think but I was just curious if it happens on other oem hardtops. Thanks for the replies.

would raising the rear of the HT via the rear hardwares oversized holes and washers help? Just a slight angling of the HT should then help clear the window tops.

i ended up stuffing material in between the latch to get a better grip, just find some black rubber or some sort and it will work wonders.

thanks for the tip, the gaps on my top are on the tighter side of the spec range, I may try to lift up the rear a couple mm's on my next adjustment and see if that helps, so then I'll be on the higher end of the spec range for gaps. Perhaps that will give me the small bit of clearance that I need, thanks for the advice.

i tried rubber and metal. the problem is the latch itself. i think when the latches get old and worn out, there is no fix except to get new latches. The problem isn't how much grip the latch has on the striker, i've solved that problem my wrapping thin aluminum around the striker. It's the internals of the latches that end up rattling and driving me crazy. The izzy brackets are awesome, just sucks that i can't use my soft top anymore.

i think one day i'll try to make my own Home Depot front latches so i can start using my soft top again.
you probably haven't read the thread fix on latch rattle using fishing line ????.... DIY absolute Top 10 fixes for the S2000 (my words lol).... search it as I didn't bookmark it sorry.
