remove rag top motor?

Default remove rag top motor?

has anyone removed the motor for there rag top? if not is it possible to do this and still retain use of the top with out the motor?

I was thinking about this the other day, I am sure it can be done, but I don't think it saves that much weight.

i was thinkin thats where most of the weight came from with the rag top assembly

The motor is integral to the way the top attaches. Perhaps you could gut the motor and leave the shell, but otherwise you would have to fab some spacers up to replace the motor.

Besides, the whole top (including motor) weighs about 60 pounds. It's a lot of work and inconvenience for a very small weight gain.

Both motors weigh about 10 lbs together. It can be done if im not mistaken but IMO not worth it

i think it's about 15 total, but yes, not worth it unless you are going all out and gutting everything

If you have ever tried removing the soft top and motors you wouldn't probably have posted this. It's a PITA to get to. There's about 5-6 hours of random fasteners, bolts, screws and bloody knuckles to just get to the motors. IMO not worth it.
