Ok, so still a little confused....the $30 key does or doesn't have the chip in it?

It does have the chip in it, basically you're just paying $150 more if you want the key to say S2000 on it (silly in my opinion)

both the Main (s2000 imprinted key) and the Replacement plain key have chips, both need to be programmed to work with the car

00-03 Tumbler non laser cut keys, 04-09 laser cut wave keys.


(pretty sure that first main key picture posted with the s2000 looks like a blank Wave key, not sure if the ap1 main keys looked any different aside from the cut portion)

Yeah, I guess my S2000 didn't come with the cool looking key. It's an 03.

But, why did my wife 04 TL key cost $100+ (can't remember exactly what), when the key looks like the normal older S2000 key?

I mean, it doesn't look exactly the same, but it's similar. Not the cool looking newer S key.

I suspect that the OP's local dealer doesn't have the key cutter for that year/model Honda.

You might just have to go to Home Depot or somewhere...
