Unhappy replacing piston and rings!

can someone give me a general idea on how much will it cost me just to replace the piston and rings for the one nearest to the firewall?

So I take it you actually broke the piston? If so, there is probably damage to the actual cylinder, and maybe the head and valves. Do you have the motor torn apart already, and have you inspected this?

NO, IT JUST HAPPEN COUPLE DAYS AGO. CAR SOUNDS LIKE A WRX STI BUT IN A BAD WAY!! I TOOK THE SPARK PLUGS OUT AND THE ONE NEAR THE FIREWALL HAS SOME BLACK GUNK ON IT. THE OTHER 3 WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE. I REPLACE IT WITH NEW SPARK PLUGS TO TEST IT OUT AND IT'S STILL MAKING THE SAME NOISE, BUT THE CAR STARTS AND DRIVES. IT DOES NOT OVER HEAT OR ANYTHING. IDLES IS KINDA ROUGH TOO.
MY VALVES ARE NOT MAKING ANY NOISES AND IT WAS ALSO BURNING OIL BEFORE IT GAVE UP ON ME.
I DID DO A COMPRESSION TEST BEFORE AND THE LAST ONE IS PRETTY LOW COMPARING TO ALL THE OTHERS.

Ahh then its not your pistons buddy. What exactly kind of noise is it? A loud knocking? Also does the knocking speed up when you rev the engine at all? If it did it out of nowhere you probably spun a bearing. I would take the oil pan off and inspect it to see what damage was done. I could probably find your problem pretty quick, but its hard to tell just desribing on the internet. If you could get a video of how it sounds that would be awesome.

yup, not sure if you ever heard a WRX STI turbo sounds like but it's exactly like it. when i rev it a little it kinda goes away but i can still hear it just a little bit. The motor was actually burning oil to began with and when i didn't drive it for 3 days and finally drove it, it gave up on me. it was running fine for 15 mins and all of a sudden i hear and felt something weird about the car. it was about to stall and CEL light started to blink constantly.

i will try to get a video clip of it tonight. whats your email? i don't know how to load pics or video's on here. haha...

thanks for the HELP!!

Would a spun bearing cause low compression?

Definitely sounds like that #4 cylinder is shot. Unfortunately the damage probably extends beyond just the piston. I would advise not driving the car at all until the problem was diagnosed.

That's what my car is doing! Exact same sound like a wrx. Lol. I plan to take off the head soon and assess the damage.

If your CEL was blinking the engine is done. That means something serious is going on inside of your engine. DO NOT START THE CAR! You will only make things worse if you do that. Pull the code and find out what it is, then the most logical step would be to tear the engine apart to find what all parts are broken. From there you can see if you saved anything.

if your paying a mechanic to fix this it's going to get expensive fast!
i would honestly consider going on ebay and buying a complete long block for 2500 then getting a buddy to help put it in.
