Try an aftermarket intake. It will add some growl to your car sound as well. I did both intake and exhaust at the same time. It was overwhelming at first but I am used to it now.

I loved it at the time. It made the car sound like there was SOME balance between the engine and the exhaust. Stock S2k's have nearly 100% of their redline sound coming up front. Of course once I went to Invidia everything was a little different.

I have just an intake on my daily driver (last gen Prelude) and it's about the same in terms of adding some growl at high RPMs.

Don't think removing the resonator will give you any HP, but it does sound better.

Is this the same for the 06+ DBW s2k's?

Also, Johnny--2K, your sound clip is too old and was taken off the site. Any way you can repost it?

There are a gazillion threads on this already.

General consensus is that it makes the exhaust just a tiny bit deeper at low RPM, and isn't even noticeable until you put the top down. Leave the "nub" (Helmholtz resonator) or it will get raspy and tinny when cold.

While an old thread, this is a great modification and one I had done this afternoon. I located a master welder and exhaust expert who quickly removed the premuffler. A new piece of steel pipe was fitted over the rear Spoon brace and welded into place. A new hangar was welded and attached. Nothing had to be detached to allow a complete weld and perfect bead all the way around the pipes. The removed piece weighed about 6.5 lbs and with the added pipe the net savings was about 4 lbs - not much, but oh the sound! It's perfect; not too loud and just a bit lower in pitch. I don't have any dyno data but there is a JND in throttle response. When I arrived home I raised the car and sprayed the welds and pipe with hi-temp primer and flat black hi-temp grill paint. From my subjective view at this time, this is a very cheap ($35) mod that results in no power loss (some have reported a bit more hp) and a very unique and non-ricer exhaust note.

There are tons of photos in the 204857235872935729 other threads about this exact same mod.

It's a straight piece of tubing welded in...what's there to see?

Found some. I was looking for one that showed the resonator.

instead of removing the resonator, has anyone just relpaced the muffleres with aftermarkets?

i know they will provide deeper sound note but will the new mufflers (n1 style) increase the sound significantly or just a slight increase?

just went and did it. there is a rasp to it, but it sounds a bit deeper.

I owned a toyota matrix before and on the lower rpm it sounds like a slightly louder OEM Toyota Matrix/Corolla exhaust
