Default Roll Bar DD

I recently realized that my head clears the factory roll hoops by a good 1-2 inches and decided to look into a roll bar in case of a roll over. I did a search but most of the threads on this topic seemed to be more than five years old.

I figured that since then, the products probably have changed.

I was just wondering what you guys would recommend for a rollbar with the following characteristics:

1) Won't get in the way of DDing too much

2) Of course, should be able to adequately protect me in an event of a rollover (not saying that I should walk away unharmed, just saying that the rollbar should prevent my head from getting crushed by the ground).

3) One that you don't have to weld on or make any severe modifcations

4) price is not really a concern but hopefully under 1k.

EDIT* Forgot to tell you that I want to keep the factory rollhoops.
Thanks

For one, a Roll bar with make you car less safe for a daily driver. A roll bar is part of a safety system and without a complete safety system designed to work together, it just present something need to smash your head on.

So for the roll bar to work properly as part of that safety system, you need to wear a helmet.

Even if you are above the factory roll hops by few inches, the windshield is also meant to work as a roll bar (look at pics of flipped S2k's) and I bet your head is below that.

Why would a rollbar create more risk in terms of safety. Even if it doesn't completely protect me, wouldn't it be better than no rollbar?

Thanks

I never thought of that. I will look into this factoring in the compression of the windshield and the roll hoops (if there is any).

Thanks for the input

If he is tall enough that he is above the roll hoops then he is probably siting all the way back and will not pass the broom stick test. And he will also be far enough back that he will be able to whack his head on the vertical support of a roll bar.

^You've just added a bunch of metal pipes to smack your head into should you get in an accident that weren't there before. That's why people will tell you it's unsafe. It's one of those things that makes the car more safe and unsafe at the same time.

Despite that you'll find tons of people that daily their car with a rollbar. In a minor accident it probably won't be so much of a problem but in something major you are definitely pretty likely to smack your head on it somewhere. Honestly though I think it depends on size. If you're really short your seat is probably pretty far forward and the rollbar is going to be far enough back it might not really be such a problem. For those of us that are around 6' feet tall it is more of a risk.

People do not realize that in a street car of any type, rolling over if you are tall results in hitting you head hard on something in most cases. Tin tops crush down and most people who are significantly above factory roll hoops on an s2k are getting hit in any car's rollover.

There is not much padding in a tin top's roof so its really not much better if at all, so it is not much better. THe main purpose of the rollover protection in the car is to keep you from getting crushed which, it will do very well.

BTW I forget where on here I found it but there is a link around here somewhere that talks about how honda put the S through the regular rollover test that tin tops need to go through and it passed easily.

I don't sit with the chair pushed all the way back, though it is closer to the back then to the front.

Yeah, this is an S2000, not a Miata. The windscreen is reinforced and it very strong.
