Hey guys, I'm looking to replacy my old rusty OEM rotors, and I really want something with rust protection for the unswept areas. I've been leaning towards something that's drilled/slotted (yes I am aware of the cons, this is a purely cosmetic choice). It seems that most of these are machined AFTER the coating was added. That means the holes or slots are exposed iron and will rust over time. Does anyone know of a drilled and/or slotted rotor that is coated after it's been machined?

hmm, you could take any rotor and paint the areas exposed (imo the only areas that would work would be the outside and the hub area - other parts the paint probably wont stick for long. Doesnt powerslot or one of those companies make a rotor thats coated or something?

 

Coated, yes, but I can't seem to find anyone that does the coating after they drill/slot. Most sell the coated blank, or they machine it after the fact.

 

even if it was coated after...how long would that last after a few heat cycles? you need stainless steel rotors for what your looking for

That's a great question....I might be completely off my rocker thinking it will make any difference long term.

 

Yeah, I just don't like the gold color - EBC and Brembo both seem to have that. My wheels are Volk ce28n in Mercury Silver, so I want to stick with a silver disc.

 

The EBC Ultimax rotors are coated after being slotted, and the idea is that the coating only wears off the contact area. They are coated black, and are silver underneath, so that might be what you are looking for? I bought some this week. Haven't fitted them yet so can't tell you how they look after being used for a bit.

I saw on one of the detail threads that someone had something that was able to melt the rust right off of the rotor and the little drilled dimples. It might be another option if the coated ones don't pan out.
