Default S2000 Air Intake question...

Hi guys,

not sure if this has been covered before but I don't know how I should look it up...
I've seen quite a few intake kits available for S2000. I'm interested in items like Mugen or J's where theres a closed carbon housing holding the intake with a cold air intake pipe coming up from the front.

ok heres the question...

I've also seen companies like Spoon making a similar cold air intake pipe for the OEM air box. I was just wondering, if I drop in a replacement filter (K&N, Spoon or Mugen) in the OEM airbox then by adding the extra cold air intake pipe, will it make a huge difference in comparison ? Logically I see both OEM airbox + CAI pipe & what J's & Mugen has done are very similar setups.

Can anyone please explain ?

secondly will I get more sound from a simple replacement performance filter? (with the OEM air box closed)

Thanks!

Simple performance filter drop in with oem airbox closed isn't noticeable but you can get better gas mileage. Getting the J's or mugen intake or CAI can show faster response but not noticeably in power. Don't focus so much on intake cause it's not worth the money for power.

a simple replacement K&N filter drop in with oem box will not make the intake louder.. I had this setup and it sounds the same with stock oem box stock filter.. Invest into K&N fipk.. J's and Mugen intakes are too pricey but its nice. Good Luck

snorkels are nice too but I wouldn't want to pay 430 for one..If you get into a car accident with ur front bumper, there goes your $430 snorkel in the drain..

Always keep everything under the hood where its safe.. You can get a Cai or K&N fipk for half the price of a snorkel.

People in their mustangs and dodge challengers always look when I pass by with my K&N fipk, it has the perfect growl.

Added a k&n filter to the OEM box. Someone posted to pull the lid off to get more air flow. Has an annoying whistling sound, what causes this? Although it has a nice sound when accelerating, besides the whistle..

i think that running without the oem intake lid i would be more concerned about the hot air i would get rather then whistling sound.
