Default S2000 Soft Top: How long can we hold out?

Hi all,

I apologize about starting yet another thread regarding a soft top replacement but I am seeing a concerning trend, at least here in Canada with regards to the S2000's. I have called a few Honda dealerships and they are saying that the soft tops for OEM are no longer available, other's are giving me quotes in the $3-4k range (Canadian Dollars)

So in 2022, what are our options? I know there is a Robbin's soft top available as the best option for aftermarket from what SOME posters say. Is this the best site for the Robbins tops? https://robbinsautotop.com/honda-s20...complete-34638 Any other tops anybody recommends?

Does anybody know where a respectable OEM Honda top would be best purchased from? It's my understanding the part number is 86310 S2A J01 is what I am looking for.

With the OEM being really hard to find and some of the reported quality issues in other threads with Robbin's, how long can we continue to enjoy the sunshine in our S2K's? Mine is a 2002 but it appears some parts are getting harder and harder to find. What will happen in 5-10 years? I am not normally this much of a newbie with my S2K but this soft top replacement has me perplexed. It's my original top but it's done as of now. Cloth, vinyl, Robbins, OEM. I want to try the Blue top since I have a Suzuka Blue.

So many choices! Thanks so much in advance

Topsonline is where my Robbin cloth roof came from. Vendor shouldn't matter -- they just ship it. Roughly $900 on their website vs $1,700 for the OEM vinyl roof if it's actually available. I doubt Honda is making replacement roofs for a car that's been out of production for a dozen years. Don't forget someone has to install the roof and it does not seem an easy DIY job.

I'm seeing a one or two Robbins roofs with problems. Don't know their production dates or who installed them. I doubt the ski is falling.

I've seen one maybe two blue roofs on blue cars. Didn't impress me; they just didn't look right. Too bland.

The previous owner of my car installed an aftermarket fabric top with glass window on mine (MY00). It had a small tear on the driver's side behind the door when I bought the car, in the six years since the tear has grown (my own fault) but with some tent tape it doesn't leak at all and doesn't even add wind noise. Some day I may replace it, but it is so, so far down the list. A decent fabric top is probably better than the OEM vinyl tops imo.

Honda has announced to continue to deliver spare parts for the S2000 at the 20 Anniversary in 2020. Seems it did not happen... ?
I have orderd som spare Parts lately, some Plastic molding, they came after 4 Months from Japan. 4 months seems too me that the part was not ready aviailable, but honda have re-produced a batch? Thats at least my conclusion. That´s a good sign.

This car will allways have it´s fan base, parts will allways in Demand and sell. If Honda cant´s deliver parts, maybe some aftermarket companies will jump the train. Lets see what happens, but be prepared for some weeks or month without the car while you wait or search for spare parts in the Future. But in my opinion It´s time for Japanese car makers to wake up and produce spare parts for their classic cars, as other manufacturers do. You guys in the USA are still lucky, in Germany this car is a rare as hens teeth...
