Default S2000 trying to be BMW quiet

Hey guys. This weekend I decided to try and quiet up the AP2 by adding a bunch of sound dampening material. I pulled the trunk panels and laid some sheets in the rear shelf area underneath the spare tire and behind the fuel filler neck. I also coated a number of areas in the trunk.
Next I pulled up front section of carpet and placed dampening mat up agonist the firewall and on floor of car up to the cross member. I the. Coated the door panels and finally covered a number of area under the center console.
The result is very impressive. It is no MERCEDES but it has certainly quieted down the car and made interior much more liveable. The only downside is that I probably added 15lbs of weight to the car in process. For me it was worth it and I will look to taking those pounds and more out somewhere else.

Replace the battery with a 5# one, not cheap but they work. 540 cold cranking amps

If you do, let me know if they are selling them. I ordered one three weeks ago and they said they are still waiting for the next batch to come in.

I like the S2000 loud and buzzy. It's part of the car's character to me. It's even better with a proper exhaust. Why would you want to make a raw sports car that's built around the driving experience quiet? I have a TSX for when I want quiet, among other comforts.

I drive the car about 500 miles a week all over Southern CA for work. I do love this thing to death but constant road noise on freeways does get tiresome. I am often taking conference calls via bluetooth as well and my clients could not hear anything I said.
Tomorrow goig up to LA. 250miles round trip. Cant wait to see how it does.
On another note I just discovered. Closing the doors makes a solid thump now. Much more solid sounding than before.

Cosmomiller is the guru for S2000 noise reduction:

I've been following his lead but have been severely limited in the time I can put in. So far I've done the doors and windshield frame/trim and that alone cut 2 db off my measurements (which is very noticeable). Floors and spare tire area are next. I might skip the trunk as Cosmo reported that this area made little difference and I'd like to keep the added weight between the axles.

For me, I enjoy the car more when it isn't resonating and rattling like a tin can.

Edit: I have the Shorai battery. The custom brackets are cool, but not necessary. You just add a little of the included Shorai sticky-foam to the top and it will strap in with the stock tie-downs.

Wow he basically did the same thing I did but with the addition of the foam padding. I just used the asphalt sticky stuff. Im very pleased with result. My freeway cruise to LA and back was much better. Could use a bit more help but a large improvement.
I will try and pick up some of this padding and see how that improves the result!

Only 15 pounds? Seems worth it.

I totally think so. 15lbs is fairly heavy for this project but it is so much nicer to drive. No regrets
