Default S2k Engine Swap

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I was about to get an e92 m3, however I'm thinking about changing my mind and I'm highly considering getting an s2000, however the 0-60 is a bit slow for me (I'm looking to get in the 4.5-4.8 range). Right away, I thought about an engine swap, since I see so many people engine swapping with an ls1/ls2. What about a VQ35HR (2008 350z/g35 engine)? Or maybe even a VQ37HR (current 370z/g37 engine). I can get the 35HR for roughly 3,500, and the 37HR for roughly 7,500. Would any of you guys know anyone who has done anything similar to this, know how much the installation would be, and tell me if this is actually able to happen. Most of all, is it worth it? Also, if I do end up engine swapping, how much of a difference would the old body make compared to the new one? Also, will I be able to get insurance? The VQ35HR weighs actually 70 pounds lighter than the 2.0 s2k engine so it's not heavy to the point where there would be massive unnecessary wheel spin. Thank you for your feedback!

I have seen people make 500, even 700whp with a turbo on a stock F20 bottom end. If you are looking to stay NA Inline pro make a 2.7 stoker kit. I think both of those options make more sense than spending all that money on tiring to make a VQ35 work in a s2k.

If you want a fast car buy one... waste of money and time trying to turn a slow car into a fast one IMO

I'm not going to try to fry you man, but really? 3,000 for an engine, $$$ for transmission, then add the money for the custom fabricated parts (engine mounts, driveshaft, wiring, ect) then add the time to wire everything so it will all work and put it all in, and you will now have a car that has 300ish whp. Just supercharger, supporting mods, and move on :-)

both prices you listed for the cost of the engine swaps could be used toward boost and creating a S with alot of power...quicker than 4.5sec 0-60. because youre new to the s2000, I honestly suggest running it na for awhile to get use to the cars behavior before raising the power. after 400whp this car becomes a bit of a challenge for most new s2000 drivers. good luck

Yeah, buy a Honda, and put a Nissan engine in it. Seriously? If 0-60 times are that important to you, buy a different car. Sounds like you don't quite get what the S2000 is all about.

I find it hard to believe that a VQ35HR is 70 lbs lighter (with accessories). But if it is go for it, you'd be the first....I think

Definitely not time/cost effective though.

Seriously I can't see this being worth the money and time. Hell a used SC kit costs around $3-4k and you can make more power than the engine swap. Have you driven an S? What m3 were you looking at? I suggest you go drive one and make sure you get to do a few good pulls. That being said if you are looking for straight line performance you are looking at the wrong car.
