A sc would of course be a much cheaper easier method. However the 3.5 or 3.7L engines would add a ton more torque making it quite a bit faster than a 300hp sc'd S.

Yeah and a ls swap would be even better and there is actually some kits for this. Or you could just buy a z or g35 and boost it. All of them would be cheaper options than a vq swapped s. You could always to a stroker kit and either turbo/supercharge and you will still probably be in the same realm of cost as the swap he is talking about.

Oh yeah for sure. Definitely not close to cost effective but I'm sure the 3.7L would feel nice in the S! 15k or more later lol.

Don't get why people are saying to get a different car if you care about it being fast. Boosting the S makes it the best of both worlds.

If you have the time, money, fabrication skills and drive to do it, than I say go for it. People seem to have no problem with someone swapping a j32 into this car- but make it a better motor made by a different manufacturer and people all of a sudden think it is a bad idea. If the motor's physical specs are similar to an ls(x) or a j32/j35 (which have been proven to fit) than it might be feasible.

Did you mean 70lbs heavier than the f20?
The added weight in the front from a larger motor isn't that much more than the added weight of a turbo or a supercharger w/ aftercooler. If weight distribution is a concern, relocate the battery to the trunk or where the spare tire is located, and add a harddog roll bar. Plus a larger diff (which would be recommended) will add some weight to the rear as well. So all in all you may add another 100-150 lbs to the car, which will be offset by the increase in horsepower and the massive jump in torque. You can then shed another 40+ lbs by gutting the softop and motors and using a carbon fiber hardtop.

If you could manage to find a rolling shell for around 5-6k than this project shouldn't cost over 12-14k to have everything done correctly and you could have a very nice car for cheaper than buying one and boosting it. There was an S for sale last month locally with a blown motor for 5.5k- if you can find something like that than you will have a good starting point.

I kind of agree with everyone here, I feel like its A LOT of work with too small of a reward. The S2K's engine can hold more power than the VQs right out of the box, so if you ever wanted to go bigger, you would probably be better off with the F20/F22. Also, to get to the power level of the stock VQ, it would cost a lot less than the swap itself.

If you want to do it to be different than more power to you, I'd love to see a build thread, plus that engine sounds great! But efficiency wise, I dont think it's the smartest choice.
