Default Safe intake

I ,

Actually , I have a K&n FIPK on my S and want to try something different .
Some says that the aem v2 (or any intake that is located in the fender ) is dangerous for the hydrolock , but gives the car a great sound .

Some says that it is better to go with a snorkle with the stock air box .

My question is : is there a danger with a snorkle ( or j's racing style intake ) that take the air down in the open area of the bumper, to get wather in the intake ???

I mean , If I go out with the car a rainy day and I have one of these two type of intake , is there a hydrolock danger ???

Excuse me for my realy bad english , I speak english twice a year aproximatly

Thank you !

There is a risk of hydrolock with any type of intake, however there is going to be LESS risk with the stock air box and snorkel. The entire purpose behind the stock air box design is to separate dirt and water from the air before it goes to the engine.

dont worry about the english, english is my second language. well any ways, if you have the k & n fipk, how would your question be relevant about snorkel when you have a short ram intake? well i had/have both. i had the fipk, and it was f*king awesome, just not the bogging. in canada, the weather does not really get that bad enough to really matter, i go there in the summer, every once in a while. but down south of the U.S. it gets really hot! but back your question. i have the snorkel and i drove it through a storm that had no visibility. i mean rain was coming down faster than the wiper could wipe. i was doing about 65 mph or 103 km, and then pulled over, and i checked the snorkel the next day and there was no water in the stock air box.

You're not going to hydrolock from driving in the rain. You will hydrolock if you have an intake that runs to the fender without an umbrella or without plugging the hole above the filter. You can also hydrolock with this type of intake if you decide to drive through deep water (a bad idea in any S).

We certainly get plenty of rain and flooding down here yet many of us run with Fujitas. Just use some common sense while driving in the rain.

it would! but you would have to modify it in some way to make a cover that encloses the filter and the snorkel. those will are bad ass numbers!

this is why i think so. 1. the cooling plate that keeps air down at the radiator does whats its supposed to do and it keeps air down. so there is not alot of air rushing to the K&N to give it the most valuable gain. 2. if you do remove the cooling plate, at a stop the K&N would suck up the radiating heat of the radiator. this causes bogging or loss of power!!! a big NO NO! 3. adding a snorkel and a cooling plate that goes with the snorkel will give the the filter access to the most fresh cool air available, but at a stop it will still suck up the radiating heat of the engine. so by adding a cover that encloses the filter and the snorkel will give the highest gains!

if you think about it, K&N FIPK gives one of the most highest gains of a low cost intake, mate it with an ebay snorkel that cost maybe 100 dollars, man you will be taking about the best intake combo out there. IMO

When one talks about enclosing the filter from heat, and adding a snorkel; I ask what makes this intake any better than the stock airbox and a snorkel. Seeing the fact that the air box is enclosed from any outside heat, besides the heat from the radiator.

yeah i was mentioning the heat from the radiator. also the snorkel to the air box is not exactly a direct flow of air. because the air has to bend around the elbow. the snorkel to the K&N would be a direct flow but i bet that it would suck up a lot of crap.
