Default Shift gate

Greetings:

I think I've taught myself how NOT to misshift but I shudder to think what might happen if I lend my S2K to others (e.g. my brother).

Hence, I think it would be helpful (and look pretty good -- in a Ferrari-kind-of-way) if a shift gate was installed (i.e. the kind that are displayed on this Google images page:
http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&source=...=&oq=&gs_rfai=)

Has anyone done this? Did it work out well? What product did you use? Can you install it yourself or is better to have a professional mechanic do it?

Please advise.

Thanks!

David

yeah, it's been done, you have to buy a piece of metal and cut it out yourself, non-functional, just for looks and won't stop your brother from mis-shifting...

Yeah, I did a search for "shift gate" and found a thread from 2008 or so. (I think they were referring to a shift gate down inside.) The fix that most of them gravitated towards was a different shift knob, which seemed a bit of a "digression" from addressing "the real problem," though I think one person implied that installing an aftermarket shift knob that was taller helped him to avoid misshifting.

he tried the gate style first but the forks had to be to thin... had to cut them out.

And you must have an aftermarket shifter like the AxialFlow. OEM is too fat because of the anti-vibration feature. Puddydad's one off piece has yet to be surpassed and is probably the most practical shift boot substitute.
