Shifter Bushings?
Hi Everyone,
I have an AP1 2002 Honda S2000 with 108k miles. Sometimes I feel like the shifting is pretty Notchy (but No grinding). I did some research and it looks like a pretty common thing for AP1's. My questions are:
-Why does the AP2 shift smoother (or even the new Si's like 2008 and above)?
-Would buying Shifter Bushings help make my car shift "smoother" and less Notchy?
Thank you all so much! No matter what, still love my AP1!! =]

You can't compare the shifter feel from a civic to an S2000. Those are 2 completely different types of transmissions. Like moddiction recommended, replace the plastic pivot ball, the plastic piece that holds the shifter in place, regrease everything and change your transmission fluid. Those should help to eliminate some of the notchy feeling.
The ap2 uses 3 stage carbon fiber syncros, ap1 2 stage metalic syncros, hence even smoother shifts.
Your notchiness isn't from shifter itself, its from the clutch not fully disengaging. Replace fluid, using gravity bleed method to 2 birds one stone (fresh fluid, no air).
Then adjust your clutch rod for zero play.
You may want to regrease your shifter, and also the slave push rod, but not to reduce noticiness. Just smoother action.

Interesting will look into this ^^

Noticed last drive i was putting pedal to the floor and seemed better..thought could be down to my slower gear changes and pausing in mid position.
will have a look in the daylight

Billman adjusted my clutch pedal to eliminate the first stage of loose play which you can get rid of but there's a second stage of play that's Suppose to be there from what he said, You should look into his post that discusses this in detail. Luckily Billman flew down to Cali for a week or so, so I got everything done when he was here that I didn't trust anyone else doing heh.
Edit: here's the the thread, scroll down to Billmans post describing the two different plays in the clutch rod https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/289...now-very-high/

Thank you all for your input! I will definitely try this one of these days! Last question.. is it possible to use the ap2 carbon fiber syncros on the ap1??? (I apologize if that is a really stupid/noob question)...!! >_<
