ya if you search you'll see that rick, from ricks2k.com tried to make this setup but it wouldnt work. In that thread I think is PuddyDaddys setup as well

 

An open gate is best because of how close everything is. I did do the engineering to do a gate setup but, just have not built it. It is going to cost a good bit of money to do even for us doing the work for the full gate shifter.

 

That looks pretty good really. I've actually thought about doing this as well a while back. Didn't know anybody actually did it. Just goes to show, its hard to be truely original.
