I was in Harbor Freight today and noticed some silicone tape hanging in the glue section. I'd been planning on getting some like Might Fixit (aka Tommy Tape) but just never got around to it. The HB 10' roll cost $2.50 so how could I go wrong. They also had a "marine" version that was $5, but I didn't see a difference other than it was clear rather than black. I decided to wrap my volk lug key to give some protection to my wheels. I wrapped the socket about twice full around with a slight overhang on the lip. I stretched the tape while wrapping for a snug fit. As advertised, it just sticks to itself without adhesive. I could have used electrical tape, but this seemed like a good application to try. After it was wrapped, I test fit and found it had too much hanging over the lip and was too snug so I trimmed with an exacto knife. Also, it made the lug a little too fat so I peeled a little back off and cut that piece off. All in all it worked great, about $0.12 worth of tape, and seems like it will last (forever) so I guess I'll do my regular 19mm socket and still plenty leftover for when I need to fix a water leak .
