Simple, cheap, awesome install
So I've got a few buddy's in Cincinnati who are subaru guys and the classic install for subaru's is the big red hella supertone horns which makes everyone say "are those turbos?" These horn kits run about $50 and come with two 118 decibel horns (a high tone 500 Hz and a low tone 300 Hz). These horns take a standard 12V power source and draw about 2.5 amps a piece so they will work just fine with the stock fuse.
I'd looked but really had only seen two members who had installed these horns before on S2000's. The install is pretty straight forward and should be the same for about everybody.
My car is a 2002 which is the first year the implemented the dual high and low tone horns stock to replace the ap1's wussy horn note. My high tone horn is mounted on the right/passenger fender and the low tone is mounted on the vertical frame strut right in front of the radiator by the AC condenser. All you have to do with these horns is mount them in parallel so they receive equal voltage. To do this I left my stock high tone fender horn installed. Down by the bumper a took out the low tone horn, cliped off the stock connector and soldered two 20 gauge lines to the single original power line. I then soldered each line to each horn and ran a ground line to the chassis from each horn. I made up some custom brackets to put them right down behind the grill too.
AS A NOTE: These horns are extremely directional which is good. If you aim them forward and don't obstruct them they are loud as piss but only forward. From inside the car it sounds like normal just with different tones but right in front of the car you will get blasted. These horns serve two purposes:
1. Next time you get cutoff or someone is merging into you, give them an earful and they will scoot right back over
2. They look awesome and are hilarious to play with, they are just below train horns as far as intensity so use them only when you really have to
Here's some pictures to go with it.
