A light coating of oil on the shock body is normal, but dripping oil is not. A blown shock will also not return to their fully extended state quickly, but this has to be checked with the shock off the car and without the spring. if you do not sit the spring right on the lower perch, the spring gets into a bind and twist, and it'll make noise.
