The OEM style replacements are made by Dinso and NGK. I replaced mine with NGK. After reading several people who had Dinso Iridiums fail (break) and have parts bounce around inside the engine.

I think the owners manual has the part numbers listed for both.

OEM is NGK platinum. you could also go for NGK iridium if you wanted to.

I'd highly recommend NGK Iridiums, (BKR7EIX-11). I think they give you a bit better burn, but that is just my opinion. The fine wire centre electrode is thin yet strong (hard), and the ground electrode is tapered. The plug design requires less voltage to fire so they should work pretty good in a rich environments. I'm running them and plan to replace them every 2 years, they could last a lot longer than that but it's cheap maintenance.

My stock plat. plugs were totally worn out at 55,000 miles as the centre electrode wore down and the gaps were really big, the Iridium centre electrodes are less prone to such wear.

I would check out the wide band o2 sensor, usually stock car set up with mild mods such as air intake, exhaust and ect.., do not give you black smoke and rich run. How many miles on the car? Is it the original plugs? Have a mechanic look at the overall health of your engine before you install the item.

there are 53k miles on the car. as far as i know they are original plugs. i bought the car from a dealership with 51k on it and it did it then. it does alos burn oil. they said the 00' and 01' s2k did burn oil. thats what im thinking it could be which is understandble. they said it could be up to 1qt every 1 k miles. which its about a quart every 1500- 2000 miles depending on how i drive. after installing my wideband i see that it isnt running that rich at all. its pretty lean to me reading 13.5 rd gear wot until about 8700- 9k runs around 11.4

it's a good time to change your plugs.

I bought my car at 55,000 miles and it had to be emmissions tested as part of the sale. It was right on the borderline for hydrocarbons (unburnt fuel), and the plugs were in poor shape, I swapped them out immediately. I'm replacing the primary 02 sensor while I'm at it just as a precaution as well.
