I am currently in the process of prepping the car for a Harddog Roll bar, Bride bucket seats, and Schroth Harness set-up. As part of it I am stripping out anything that is not needed.

Pulling the stock seat belt retractors will create an SRS light because the component is missing. Doing a bit of research and talking to a few people it is as easy as installing a resistor for each component removed. Easy enough? Yup. Can I find a thread that outlines what needs to be done? I have little to no luck with the search function so nope only to use a resistor! Decided I would make a little write up!

This can be used for all SRS components removed from the car for 00-05 cars, not entirely positive it is the same for 06+ but most likely is.



First you need to get you hands on a few resistors! 5watt 2.2ohm to be specific. I ordered them from Mouser Electronics Xicon PN# 280-CR5-2.2-RC. I payed more to ship them then I cost to buy them !


Next you need to bend the leads around to fit into the connector for the component you are replacing... I was connecting to the stock pig tail from the retractor so they were fairly close together on the connector. Also you can trim them down so you can get the resistor nice and tight to the connector...



Then tape the resistor to the connector. I did a few different directions, once over the top to hold the resistor to the connector, wrapped around the connector and resistor, over the top again, then wrapped around one more time then down the connector body.


Then repeat for every component removed...

Once that is done you need to do the SRS reset, pretty easy and only requires a paper clip and your car keys...


If all is well you have no more SRS Light!

very cool thanks for this! i was wondering how to do this for the future. So if I wanted to keep the seatbelts, but get aftermarket seats -- all I would have to do is put the resistor in the connector under the seat?

The under seat sensor on 00-05 is for the seatbelt and you don't need to do anything with it.

06+ cars have a sensor for the airbag but needs still be in place, as it controls the force of the airbag in an accident.

Basically if it is a yellow plug there is a good chance it is for the SRS system.

Just had my driver's seatbelt replaced, any idea why the SRS light would be on?

You probably need to have the SRS light reset. It won't reset on it's own. Try the SRS reset procedure posted above and see if that doesn't help things.

Don't think I can, I have an AEM EMS.

I can't communicate with the SCS port if I remember correctly.

You can it is a separate module from the stock/aftermarket pcm

That's weird, the dealership who replaced my seatbelts said it couldn't communicate with it. Do I just need to make a dongle to clear it?

Dealership obviously didn't bother to read the manual on how to reset the SRS light! You just need a paper clip and about 1min to clear the light. I did it on my first try. If you can't get it to clear after a few tries something is wrong with the system. I can look and see what it takes to read the error code for you if it comes to that.
