Default Stock Intake box

I've heard that a good upgrade for air intakes is to modify the stock box. Is this a good mod and does anyone know how to do this mod?? Thanks everyone. New to the s2k world, starting to build the car now.

^ yeah but when launching at a drag strip all it did was suck up hot air and my car bogged bad time. rev to 8k and released the clutch and 3.5k instantly.

how does the fipk suck more hot air then the stock restrictive oem box... the fipk's caseing is heat treated . the oem box isnt.. the fipk also draws cold air from the fender hole ... just saying

I used to have gutted stock intake box, Comptech filter, snorkel and wont feel a thing. After I got K&N FIPKII with cooling plate gutted the air guide in the front bumper. Definitely feel the big different. K&N also stated dyno on the S2 got 9hps. Just my .02

I know ans2k had bogging with his fipk, but I don't notice it in mine. With the stock airbox cover off, yes I felt the bog big time! I did wrap my fipk up with insulation and I think that must help.

^ thanks. but the FIPK only sucks air when you are staying still. yes there is a lot of power when you are rolling. man i miss that intake. on the highway in 6th gear and when you floor it. ahhh. pure sex noise... i would say that it is great for autox and track. but it might not be the best for drag.

yes, the FIPK does draw air in from the fender and the air guide, but when you are staying still and reving up on a hot day at the strip, that hot air in the engine bay is being sucked into the K&N. again great for track use but not so much for my launch. that i why i went to the stick box and snorkel. there are really no gains but my launches have improved.
