Thumbs down Titanium Exhausts

Hey guys. Boostie here!

I am possibly thinking about building another DD / Time Attack car to replace my old EG racecar. I have yet to buy anything other then stainless in the past. I understand the the main benefit of a titanium exhaust is the weight savings. 8 or 10lbs complete compared to 50+ (oem).

Are there any issues / compromises with titanium exhausts?
Is it worth the 1 - 2k?
Do you like yours?
Are they usually insane loud? (car will be summer DD)
Hp gain on stock car? (with intake)
Worth Buying?

Spread some knowledge on it will ya?

TIA

I used to have a T1R 70rt. I loved the exhaust. It was loud, but the weight savings and the sound it produced were good enough for me. I drove my car from central texas to tampa florida one year and It didnt bother me much. As far as power gains I couldn't tell you because I did a toda reflash at the same time. I think as long as you can handle it being loud, then you should be good.

i think the main compromise is realized on a street car with cost a how fragile they are. I've heard of Ti exhausts being punctured by pebbles before. Some Ti exhausts are thicker than others, but the super light weight ti exhausts are very thin. If it's a street car at all, i'd rather run a SS exhaust which is much more durable.

besides being lighter than those stainless steel exhausts, i dont think it will worth that additional money, let say, 1k, compared to a stainless steel one with the same performance gains, i would rekon you spend it on suspensions upgrade which is prerequisite for a track/racecar =] but.... thats just me, it is entirely up to you
with regard to exhaust recommendations, try T1R 70R-EM Sparrow Dual,

Any other info on durability? Punctured by pebbles? That sounds pretty extreme.

Dual is not an option for me as weight savings are my main reason for going titanium. Adding an extra muffler seems silly.

i don't understand how titanium is really much louder than stainless or better performing. The piping size, muffler, resonator, and other factors play into sound and performance.

i think titanium is a horrible material for an exhaust. titanium doesn't like hot/cold expansion or vibration. Totally not practical, especially because you could get a single exhaust in stainless for an extra 10-15 lbs and get a much more durable exhaust.

that said, I have a j's 60rs titanium and love it.

i think the most obvious difference with a titanium exhaust is that it's significantly lighter.

Recently I was contemplating on purchasing either J's 70RS dual SS version versus titanium version. Titanium cost nearly 50% more than the SS. In the end, I bought the SS one.

Titanium is lighter than SS. BUT in saying that, the SS version is COMPARABLY light as well. I weighed the whole system to be around 11-12kg (not sure in lbs). From what I know titanium version weighs roughly 5kg lighter. From OEM to SS thats like 25kg to 11kg so a shave of half but I don't think titanium worth the money for that 5kg weight saving... get your tools out to shave few kgs for free instead.

Plus titanium is rather fragile compared to SS. And for something that sits underneath the car for the rest of its life, this is stressful. Even more if your S is dropped. Imagine you are driving along and heard a loud clunk underneath.... or a screeching sound as it scrapes the ground... yikes...

In the looks department, J's has made the SS version looks good in comparison. Sure titanium version is looking much better though and that sexy colour ooohhh....
