Titanium or OEM retainers for DD
I am about to Turbo my s2k looking for 350-400 whp to start with. Next thing on my checklist is building the head a bit to prevent valve float or any damage. A while back i bought this spring kit from someone who got me a good deal on it: https://www.supertechperformance.com...lve-spring-kit At the time i was not aware of some of the premature failure stories for titanium retainers. I have black nitrated ss valves from supertech as well as the seals, and the dual springs from the kit. My question is for a daily driven application, would i have to worry about the titanium retainers from the kit wearing out quickly, and if so will stock ap2 retainers be alright with these dual springs. And another thing is i forgot to buy the keepers. Are oem keepers going to be alright with a stronger spring and the new valves or should i look into keepers from supetech or another company?

titanium retainers have a much shorter service life than oem retainers, most people don't realize that. You will be swapping them out more frequently as they gall easier than oem parts, you just have to decide if the extra effort and cost is worth any slight benefit you might get from weight savings, since the oem parts don't float up to 9300 rpms I don't see the benefit.

Ti retainers don't "gall" against the valvespring - they're simply much softer than a hardened spring steel, so any slight relative motion between the retainer and spring like what occurs at high RPM will wear away the Ti retainer. Stock steel retainers are much closer to the valve spring hardness, so there is much much less wear on stock retainers.
