Thumbs up Turbo Timer

Ok so here is my thought process. I work really close to where I live. Like less than 1/8 a mile. Right now, it's too cold to walk or ride a bike or anything like that. In the morning, I crank my car, and wait at least a minute or 2 then start driving. But even with that, by the time I get to work, the car hasn't even hit the 2nd bar on the temp guage.

So I was thinking, would it be worth it for engine/oil life to install a turbo timer to leave the car running an additional 2-3 minutes after I get to work to make sure everything gets warmed up and lubricated before shutting it off? Just don't want to suffer from the starting/turning-off stress that my car goes through everyday until I can afford a DD. Thanks for the input.

Unless that cuts down on how many times your car is started and shut off - I dont think it will matter much.

seriously....1/8 mile.. thats like 700 ft, hows about walking?

Well it's more like 1/2 a mile, but most of it is walking to the back of my apartment complex. I could walk it in probably 20 or 25 minutes. I think I am getting a Ruckus in the spring, but that doesn't help in the winter.

I clocked it off this mornin and it's acutally 9/10 a mile, so I was a little off. So any more opinions on the turbo timer, instead of me having to worry about a damn exact measurement of how far I drive?

I've always thought having the car on but sitting in one place does very little for what your are looking for. Its the actual movement of the car and going through the gears, and taking your car through different revs once it warms up that keeps things in check.

My suggestion is to map a longer route, perhaps get coffee? Drive the car until you get to the 2nd bar, and then head into office.

or warm up your car while your getting ready for work...or eating your breakfast. that's what I used to do when MY00 was DD.

that's actually a clever solution. and you're right, all the short drives without proper warm up aren't very good for the car in the long run.

i like the idea.

and for everyone saying walk...i don't think you understand how cold it gets where he is in the winter. walking would blow right now. i've been there; i'm with him.
