Default Upgrading to Spoon Brakes

My big addition this spring is going to be spoon calipers. I have been doing my homework, but I still have a couple questions regarding the set up.

1) I have Advan Rg2 17.5 +45 up front. I believe I need a 10 mm spacer with extended studs, is this correct?

2) If I need the spacer and the stud, how do the spacers that already come with extended studs work? How do I bolt them (if I even do bolt them) up to the car?

3) I'm going to run with stock rotors and pads for now. Would like to upgrade pads later. I believe the stock pads need to be modified. What exactly needs to be modified?

4) If I do this set up, am I most likely going to rub in the front? I'm asking because I'm wondering if I'm going to have to flare my fenders.

Thanks for the help guys.

2. The spacer would bolt to your existing studs. Then you would use the new studs on the spacer to attach your wheels. The problem is a 10mm spacer won't completely cover the stock studs so they will be protruding also. Your wheels need to have a recess in the back to accomodate this or it won't work. I'm not even sure they make 10mm spacers in this style. Your other option is extended length studs which simply replace your old studs.

4. You might not have to flare, but you will have to trim the fender liner and bend the fender tabs up out of the way.

Sounds like a lot of work just to run some bling calipers but that is your call.

The OEM pads are designed to work with the Spoon BBK, there is no modifications to the pads required.

Just an observation, if you need to run spacers to fit a BBK, throw those wheels away, spacers are merely a bandaid solution, if you're spending money on proper aftermarket wheels, make sure it fits.

that's a pretty narrow minded view. Functionally there is no difference between a wheel with the correct offset vs one that needs a spacer to obtain the correct offset. He's already got the wheels so the easy solution is $100 or less on a pair of spacers for the front. Your solution is to buy two entirely new wheels, lol.

Spacers come with their own risks, not to mention very illegal in most countries I'm aware of. I won't advocate on a forum that they're safe and the right way of doing things. If people want to pursue that avenue, they're more than welcome to try to their hearts' content.

There is no argument, BBK must clear offset, if it does not clear, buy wheels that clear. If this is a budget constrain solution, I recommend keeping the stock brakes instead, they work fine for 90% of usage.

When I 1st got my Spoon brakes I had Advan Rg1s they did not fit over the brakes size was 17x7.5 +45 I need a 15mm spacer for them to fit at 1st i tryed a 10mm but no luck so I next day ordered from Evasive the Project Kics 15mm the beauty about these they already come with studs attached which is great but the down fall was I had to cut my OEM studs down because they were hitting the back of my Advans so after cutting them downt they fit no problem samething with my Work VsXx's hope this helps

This is a pretty narrow thinking and in a perfect world, this advice sounds great. In the real world, a lot of wheels have poor spoke design when it comes to BBK clearance. You also can't just call up Volks/Enkie/etc and just order any wheel in any offset you want.

did you have to modify your fender at all??

And I think I'd rather install longer studs than cut off my oem ones to be quite honest.
