Default V8 Swap

Hey everyone! Just trying to get some feedback on an idea I had. I found out last week that my trans needed to be rebuilt so I figured an alternative option was the v8 swap. I was just thinking why do an ls1 like every body else. I just need feedback on if you all think a 4.6 from a mustang would be possible. I'm going to try it out and I know it will be a lot of work and custom stuff but I figure it would be worth it. Thanks for any feedback!

This isn't the best photo but it serves the purpose of showing how much bigger an OHC engine is than a standard OHV like the LS series. It's simply a packaging issue in the s2k and many other chassis. The LS is a no brainier when you look at the HP per actual physical displacement of the engine.

Just clarifying, 'displacement' of the motors EXTERIOR, how space under the hood it requires to fit.

When you hear 'displacement' you usually think motors internal piston swept volume. Just trying to prevent potential confusion in this thread.

LS fit. A viper V10 was also put it. But you need to cut part of the hood for it.

Mod motors are huge, I did a 5.4 swap into my 07 mustang. Stick with OHV motors for any swap where space is limited. Plus ImportMuscle makes a swap kit. LSX platform ftw...

Why would you want the 4.6 from the mustang? Those things suck! Make more power putting a newer V6 mustang motor in. If doing a v8 swap do it with a powerful v8. Atleast an LS1 but LS2 or 3 would be much better.

Coming from someone who has an lsx s2000, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing a drop out swap. I tried to piece everything together using a 6.0L truck block, sourced a t56 trans, ls1 heads, corvette clutch, ls1 accessories, TSP cam, wiring harness, intake, fuel rails, injectors, ecu, driveshaft, ect. But doing the swap like that nickel and dimes you to death!

True, the initial investment might be higher but the time and money you'll save is worth it! If I could go back and do it all over again, I would do an ls2 GTO swap with either a shifter conversion or swap the tail housing with a Camaro housing. There's just too much information about lsx motors to justify trying something different. If you like the idea of doing different for the sake of being different, maybe look into some German v8's from BMW or Mercedes...?

The import muscle kits are super clean! There are a few things I did differently than how is outline in their manual (especially with their front suspension components), but all in all its a solid kit with great instructions as far as parts/part #'s to do the swap.
