Default Vis Mugen Hardtop Plexiglass replacement

Hey there,

Bought a used hardtop and saw that there were 3 small cracks at the bottom of the plexiglass. I wanted to get one tinted and precut if possible to replace it. I went to a local glass shop here in Miami and they wanted to charge me 150 for the total job.

Does that price sound reasonable? I wanted to see about doing it myself. Has anyone attempted this before? Any sponsors or places to buy the plexiglass precut?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Sounds reasonable to me. There was chaseraero that sells plexi with their version of the mugen ht. You can try them. But for 150 installed is good I'd sAy.

I would do it for the $150 installed, that sounds fair. When I got my VIS top with the clear plexiglass I installed it myself with some 3M Windo Weld, and its held up fine. I put plenty on there to make sure it would stay, and tiny bit of it smashed out onto the inside of the plexiglass. I just got tinted plexiglass ready to install and i'm going to have a shop do it this time to save myself the trouble.

How much is the plexiglass itself normally? I mean can i just order some and then cut it to the size of the top? Would I need a new rubber seal? The one I have on there now doesnt connect all the way through. There is a small gap since it looks like they cut that piece instead of it being premade that size.

PM spyder562, he will give you a good deal on a tinted plexi rear window with a new seal. Yes you will need a new seal for around the window. You could buy a peice of plexiglass and cut it to shape, but that would just be a pain in the @ss, spyder562 will give you a good deal on it all ready to put in, then you just have to get it installed which wouldnt cost much.

after a few years of abuse from the az sun, my plexi back window got extremely yellowed. not wanting to deal with that again, i decided to buy a pre-cut glass window and i couldn't be happier. it's a bit heavier but the visibility and durability are greatly improved.

granted, i spent considerably more than $150 but the HT looks much nicer imo. just putting another option out there for you.

Yea i saw that option too but My car is a garage queen so I think the plexiglass would do fine.

Found out for the plexiglass and seal is 150 from the member here. Guess for that price I will just take it to get fixed.

Can you tint plexiglass?

You can tint it, but its not going to stick well and it won't last at all. Its much less of an effort and cheaper to get a tinted plexiglass one already made.

i asked my tinter if he could make my already tinted glass darker with a sheet of film and he said it wouldn't hold up, as plexiglass would expand/contract with temperatures resulting in poor results. i did mine myself with windowweld and rivets. glass would be ideal though. i remember another member that had a glass shop do his for like a hundred bucks installed with custom cut glass.

I would love to convert it to glass but for 500 dollars, that sounds a bit high. Thats the cheapest I found online.
