So basicly, my car is being built for REDLINE TIME ATTACK Ethu. class.
So it will be high speed (i assume mostly) Track racing. If ap1 trany is better Ill stick with it, but if ap2 is better ill stick. I dont care about street value performance really as my car is intended to be a all track first and nething else second.

the gears seem shorter because the secondary gear makes them effectively shorter. The secondary gear affects the entire transmission, in the same manner that the final drive makes them all shorter/longer at the same time.

Speaking very generally, having a taller 1st gear and closer ratios throughout is *generally* "better" for track (road course) usage. But again, it depends on the track.

When talking transmission ratios in Zcars, it's almost always in terms of the overall ratio, i.e. the ratio of crankshaft rpm to driveshaft rpm. Much less confusing, at least until someone tries to put a lower .864 5th ratio pair of gears in his later ZX gearbox and winds up with .773 instead due to different primary gearing...
Anyway, long/short on the AP2 vs. AP1 trans is that AP2 trans gives overall gearing 4% lower in the first four gears, about the same in 5th, and 2% taller in 6th.

interesting. Aside from the secondary gear, are all components the same? Heard about the synchros being different.
I think the ap2 transmision is best paired wit an f20c wit a 4.44 final drive.

yup, the synchros are different. You could also get the secondary reduction gear from the ap2 and stick it in the ap1 trans. It's cheaper and you don't have to remove the tranny.

right?

now that's a great idea. What's the part number of those and where exactly is it located? Is it inside or outside the tranny? very interesting, learning alot.
I don't really care about the MPGs since i don't do alot of highway cruises.
