Cam Follower Clearances
Hi all,
The Cam Clearances need doing on the cam followers on my UK Spec 06 AP2 as she's beginning to get a little tappy top end. I have the OEM factory settings from my local Honda dealer.
However can I take the gaps lower??
When I had my previous S 03 AP1 the guy I bought it off raced cars and was a mechanic and he mentioned about setting the clearances to the lowest possible tolerances without doing any damage but optimising the engine!?
So any input would be greatly appreciated as I want to crack on with it tomorrow

The OEM spec for USDM F2XC's valve clearances are .008"-.010" on the intake and .010"-.012" on the exhaust. I've been running .007" intake and .009" exhaust for years, and think it's the best way to go. I've gone even tighter than that, but don't think it's worth the risk.
However, it isn't clear from the OP if you are going to measure the clearance in the right location. Some Honda's have valve clearances specified for the clearance between the follower and cam lobe, but the clearances for the F2XC are specified for the gap between the top of the valve and the adjuster screw. If you measure the clearance between the cam lobe and roller rocker, the clearance would be MUCH smaller (like .003").
