I have been searching the forums for a correct answer, and I think this is one topic that still has no definite answer on how to properly run a catch can. I'm in the process of buying one, but I have no idea how to properly route it. My S2k is mainly for the track and sees little street driving (unless im wearing in tires, brakes, or a clutch).

Can someone please help me out on the proper way I would need to route the catch can?

 

It really depends on your catch can (open or close system).

If you are running a close catch can setup (no filter), intersect the PCV line. Go PCV -> Catch Can -> Intake manifold. This catches the oil before it goes back into your "clean" air.

If you are running an open system, I would suggest running it like to the first picture if you planning to use AN fittings. The second picture works also, because you're relieving pressure by venting into the atmosphere.

The setup in the last picture isn't doing anything for you (assuming the catch can is closed). The owner is capping the OEM PCV system (which would work fine for his mods), and is "venting" to a catch can that appears to be closed.

A drilled valve cover baffle eliminates the need for a catch can altogether and requires no extra parts.

 

I have both and end up emptying my catch can far less than before drilling the baffle. However I still empty the can every 2-3 track days (15-20 sessions).
I don't think doing the baffle completely eliminates the need for a can.

 

anyone know where i can buy a "open oil catch can"?
like the second picture,
or tell me how i can make it work where i dont have a second return line for the oil catch can.

Just piggybacking on this thread.

I'm about to get a Cusco catch can for cheap. Do I go PCV > Can > IM?
What about the breather tube that goes to the intake arm?
I'm still not eliminating all the oils correct? So what's the purpose of going PCV > Can > IM in that case anyways?
