Default header wrap?

any horsepower to be gained wrapping a stock header and testpipe?

I've read it can cause the header to self destruct but a used stock header/testpipe is cheap enough to replace

I highly doubt you will notice a difference wrapping them. Also like you said, over time it will probably make them crack a weld, ect..

May I ask why you would do this? The OEM header already has nice heatshields that do what they are suppost to.

well trying to make a bit of power and maybe bring temps down some more

lose a bit of weight heatshields as well

In theory this will

1. Keep exhaust velocity up
2. Keep IAT down

I know for a fact running an uncoated stainless header will give off a lot more heat than one that is coated. This heat will eventually make it's way to the the intake side, raising temps. I've never saw any solid proof of #1 though.

Sense you're wanting to do this to the OEM manifold, I wouldn't even bother. By time you're done wrapping it would probably be about the same weight anyways.

the header will rust faster with the wrap too. i ran a wrapped berk header after i unwrapped it it had a nice thin layer of rust nothing major but deff looks like shit or hard whichever u prefer. i will most likely wrap w/e header i get next if it is not coated .

You will waste your time and not see any noticable differences.

so the scavenging effect is bs?

I've got 70mm piping behind the header so I figure the header is the bottleneck right now

The scavenging effect isn't BS. Keeping the heat in the header, to increase the velocity seems to be. Everyone would rap their header if their were proven gains. The only gains would be from less heat soak; higher IAT.

A small tangent: what about Jet-Hot thermal coating on any type of header? Will it give off significantly less heat? I know a guy that can Jet-Hot anything I need done.

honestly its a waste of time and header, heat wrap esp after a day or so at the track sometimes more the welds will crack a safer way to keep the heat in is having it ceramic coated inside and out.ive heard some tests that after ceramic coating heat wrapping is now safer for the header and welds and can bring IATs down a lil more.no noticable gains i have ever seen but lower temps help other things going on esp with a supercharged vehicles the cooler you make things the better that bad boy works
