Default HUGE difference in VTEC feel

I bought an '02 NFR S about 3 months ago....its got 80K miles and
came with 18" Axis wheels which I dont like anymore..love the "look" of
the car but feel they effect not only acceleration but also high spee
d cornering..feels at times the car is on stilts!

Of course I did own an '06 S for 3 years...all OEM and felt the handling
of that car was just perfect/flawless/spectacular....oh I'm sorry Id
did one mod a CR FSB to minimize body roll.

Well...I recently stumbled upon an '00 silverstone S with 112K miles and
the unreal red interior..I just love this combo and am considering
a trade.
The dealer wants my car as the silver S has sat on his lot for close
to 7 wks amnd he wants it gone so the financial impact upon me will just
about be a wash.

My question/concern..this car is totally OEM and upon test driving it I cant
beleive how much more impactful..almost violent the V Tech is compared to
my '02!!
This AP1 makes my AP1 feel like an AP2...my '02 is much more refined than the
2000 model.
I think my car has been lightly modded..other than wheels thew air box cover was left off just
not sure what else might be done to it.
But the '00 just feels lighter and faster and more nimble...I'm almost ready to make
the move..
is there just something wrong with my S or should the '00 compared to the '02 be faster/quicker?

Hard to say what the difference is, my guess is stock 16" wheels vs heavy 18's. A "violent" VTEC engagement isn't necessarily a good thing, just means you aren't taking advantage of your mid range power. With an ideal tune you won't even be able to tell other than a change in sound. I'd keep your current car and just get whatever wheels you would rather have.

Crazy lol. I had 18inch wheels and went much better with stock wheels in every way.
You know the history of your car? do a valve pressure test

If you feel there's a loss of power, check your compression and if it looks off with very low compression and while a cylinder that's higher then you would have to rebuilt the head with new retainers on the intake side, check scarring cylinder walls. That's usually the case and the same with mine. Or if they had agreed without hindsight I would probably trade it and get that 00 model.

goodluck , as far as refinement, I did not care much for the improvement only soft-top I would plan on changing

OP you say you are runnng without the lid on your intake box? That will make vtec weak feeling. Put the lid back on.

Put lid back on and opt for some correct size wheels and tires.
