Default ITB booties?

So I'm having a hard time deciding on the itb booties or save up longer and buy a whole intake set up. (Toda itb box and J's intake) I'm in Vegas and running open itb honestly scares me thinking that the longevity of my engine would be suffering due to all the dust.

I've herd alternatives such as the panty hose trick, ITB booties and, individual foam filters.

-The panty hose thing....no.
-Booties, I've herd they're only good to repel water and are very harsh on airflow.
-Foam filters, Herd they disintegrate over time.

So has anyone ever ran the booties or foam filters? Maybe someone has a different route I could take?

Thanks

Foam filters sound best from your description. Id rather have them disintegrate than my engine. MAybe you have to replace them once every few years or once every year. just the cost of playing.

Check out ITG filters. I think they do ITBs.

Why would foam filters disintegrate?

Most likely from improper maintenance/cleaning/re-oiling.

You have to use cleansers/oils that is compatible with the foam and the glue holding it together. I've ridden dirt bikes all my life and the foam filters get way more dirty than a car filter ever would. Using the proper products to do filter maintenance and proper technique (never wring/twist a foam filter) I have never had to replace dirt bike filters and I clean them every 4 hours. I generally keep my bikes 3-4 years and get better than 150+ hours per season.

I wouldn't worry about it.

You could go DIY and pick up some Tempura Strainers. They look pretty bangin' IMO.

like so: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/567...m-itb-filters/

edit:

didn't notice you wanted to keep dust out. dust is everywhere so you'll never keep all of it out but it sounds like aurex has your ansnwer.

Strainers/tights/booties - they all murder power, they interfere with the interface that you're wanting to generate resonance at, and no matter how open they look, the flow is terrible, they just don't have enough surface area compared to a normal filter. I'd go with the ITG foam sausage if there's no room for a bigger feed.

What proof do you have?

I know of one member that has dyno proof that filters do not impact power.

No, no. What he is saying is that the strainers, panty hose, and other associated filters that sit right at the mouth of the trumpet will disrupt flow. He is totally right with that.

He's saying that you want a filter that has some distance between itself and the mouth of the trumpet. The domed sausage filter set up is a way to do that, so are the filters that I have. The issue with the sausage filter set up is that depending on the length of the trumpet and how the backing plate mounts to your ITB set up... you might not have enough room under the hood for everything to clear and for you to have an adequate amount of space between the mouth of the trumpet and the filter.

Edit: The down side to my filters is that you have to clearance the sides of the trumpets to make room for them. As mentioned in my build thread there are springs that sit perpendicular to the trumpets that hold the filter open and keep it away from the mouth of the trumpets.

Thank you for clearing that up. I guess I had misunderstood what he was describing initially.

Cheers.
