No, no. What he is saying is that the strainers, panty hose, and other associated filters that sit right at the mouth of the trumpet will disrupt flow. He is totally right with that.

He's saying that you want a filter that has some distance between itself and the mouth of the trumpet. The domed sausage filter set up is a way to do that, so are the filters that I have. The issue with the sausage filter set up is that depending on the length of the trumpet and how the backing plate mounts to your ITB set up... you might not have enough room under the hood for everything to clear and for you to have an adequate amount of space between the mouth of the trumpet and the filter.
Thank you for clearing that up. I guess I had misunderstood what he was describing initially.

Cheers.
No problem. I'm always happy to help out.

What ITB kit are you running OP? Depending on the kit the TODA surge box will most likely not fit. It really is only designed to work with their ITB kit as many of the other ITB set ups run trumpets that are way to big to fit inside of the TODA box.

Give me some more information on the specifics of your kit and I can help guide you. I went through all of this myself about a year ago.

Yep, that's what I was saying Feezy, thanks for clearing that up.
As for proof, well, I've done a fair bit of testing on ITB setups, as almost every car we built went out on a set, and much like Feezy has done with his, I've tried socks and strainers and similar on a few dyno back to backs, just to show people the consequences - although it's easy to figure out why they have an effect if you think about the inlet dynamics - and anything in the vicinity of the bellmouth has a serious effect, I've seen strainers loose 30bhp on an engine (~300bhp, so 10% gone for the sake of looking shiny...) over sticking an airbox over the top with cheap off-the-shelf paper filter in, and the problem with tights and such is that whilst they may *look* like they're free flowing, in actuality the air velocity over them is much higher than over a remote filter setup, even with a 'restrictive' paper filter, simply because the latter offers an order of magnitude bigger area to flow through, before you even get into the effects of resonance over the trumpet face.

i put a sheet of UNI green foam on my ITBs and at the dyno it put me at 195whp, when we removed then we instantly jumped to 210whp.

Which filters, how were they mounted, are they right up against the mouths of the trumpets, do you have the spring spacers between them and the trumpets?

It's information like this that is vital when talking about whether or not filters lose horsepower on an ITB set up.

UNI green foam filter media, its just a 12x16" sheet of foam

no springs the foam was wrapped around the trumpets with the ends tucked over and under creating about a 2" gap

this stuff

Where would be the best place to find the filters with the springs?

I purchased mine directly from Lance Hayward. If you do go through him please tell him I sent you his way.
