James, do you have links to the bolts you talk about?

I just bought a used set of T1R gen 2s off a member here, and am planning on going through them. Has anyone just drilled out the taper bore on the knuckle like some guys do with steering rods? Seems you could run a high-grade M12 or M14 bolt that way without being limited to dubious overseas offerings. . I havent been able to find any semi-adaptable tapered spindles to fit anyway.

In the meantime, Im trying to get T1R to send me new spindles, we will see how that works out....

I am planning to ream mine out and use an MS21250 AN bolt. The bolts are very expensive but are the strongest available. Working on an additional reinforcement that should help as well.

kudos. I think thats the right idea right there. Im sure it costs less than replacing the original part once a year due to fatigue worries. Its going to be awhile before Im able to get around to it. Let us know how it comes out.

I'm curious how much tq people are using on the nut that secures the taper bolt against the knuckle. I have a feeling people are using way too much tq and are stretching the bolt. No proof, just a gut feeling.

i would assume that the j's racing product uses a strong enough material for that part...

I'm very interested to see what the resultant solution to this is.

I'll be buying a set soon and want to ensure it's all built & fitted correctly. It's a bit like rear bearings failing due to excessive heat which can be resolved with a rear bbk that spaces the disc away from the hub. Add some ventilation and problem can be avoided.

Is the plan then, aside from 10 month/annual checks & preventative replacement of the end, that we simply accept the inherent weakness, or are their plans for a fortified solution to be available?
