Default 17x10+70 for track/street use

We're exploring some options to produce a 17x10+70 wheel. This would be ideal for customers with S2000s that want to run a 275mm wide tire, popular in racing tire sizes, but do not want to have to worry about modifying fenders.

This size was produced at one time by Rays Engineering as the Volk Racing CEN28N. However, this was not a popular seller, due to the cost of a forged monoblock wheel (if anyone is interested, we have a set in stock). Unfortunately, because this width and offset is not popular or used on other applications, this is a somewhat risky product for manufactures to commit to, and we're looking for feedback from owners to gather some interest. We have several questions and points to discuss:

1. we assume a 17x10.0 would be more popular than a 18x10.0 due to cost of both the wheel (about 20% more) and the tire, as well as availability of popular tires in 275/40-17 sizes. Please let us know which you would prefer.

2. would you prefer a 17x9.0 front and 17x10.0 rear or 17x10 all around? The 17x10 front would require some fender modification and the wheel would likely hit the control arm under full lock.

3. the wheel would be a high quality Japanese made low pressure / argon gas sealed cast wheel with flow formed inner rim & heat treating to improving tensile strength close to what can be achieved with forging.

4. the price target would be $2,000 for a set. To compare, a set of forced wheels in the same size cost around $3,600 and a custom built modular (and heavier) set (ie CCW) is around $3,400.00.

I'd like a wheel in 17x10 with offsets of +45 to +50 that will clear the stoptech and/or essex/ap racing bbks.

If I'm going to have the added grip for both cornering AND braking, I'll need a bbk to support it, which I already have .

The 949 6ulr wheel in 17x10 +52 was perfect, minus the lower a-arm rubbing at full lock. A slightly lower offset at +48 would likely relieve this issue and provide plenty of clearance for a bbk provided the spoke design is for functionality and not hella-concave looks.

I'd run 17x10 all around square with 255s.

I agree with above. I would want 275's all around or 255/275, but need the fronts to accommodate a BBK, especially since I am SOS supercharged. I would be in for a set.

I would be interested if I could get wheels that could accommodate 245/255 up front and 275 on the rear with no rubbing on fenders or suspension components.

Would the offset planned accommodate small suspension drop such as Swift R springs or would it only work for OEM suspension setup? What is the plan for wheel spoke design and color?

You said you had some CE28 with large offsets on stock? What do you have and how much are they? Can you PM me on this last question?

Thanks Chris.

Another one here for a 17x10 in the +45 to +52 range. How can +70 fit on the inside without rubbing on the a-arms or inner fender well?

I'm interested in a set of the high offset 17x10 +70. I'll use spacers upfront.

Agreed with the higher offset. Needs to fit BBK including the Essex one. 17x10 square would be my vote.

I'm semi interested as well but not at +70. Maybe something around +55 would be a good in the middle. There are more people that want to run 17x10s and are more than willing to touch the fenders than those wanting to leave fenders alone. I'd be willing to say by a long shot too.

Problem is that there aren't a lot of 17x10 options that aren't either very expensive (volks) or have too low of an offset.

It's a double edged sword with BBK fitment. Good flush fitment rear without a ton of camber would be ideal. Maybe 17x10 +55 wouldn't require much of a rear fender roll, very minimal pull from rolling. I just did my rears to accomodate for a 17x10 I've yet to order. I'd want the rear 17x10 to fit like a 17x9 +45. +55 gets it close and might clear the slim Willwood BBKS.

How many tire options still exist in 275s for good street tires? Will they stay?
It seems that some of the top end street tire brands have dropped the 275/40/17 from the rosters. Dunlop, Hankook and BFG hasn't announced that the new rival will be carried in 275. I hope Hankook brings the RS4 with 275/35/17.

You have Kuhmo XS, Nitto NT05, Conti EC DW, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, Michilin Pilot PS2, Toyo R1R, nd that's about it.

R comps field has all the typical brands with Hankook and Toyo being the cheaper options.
