Well that's a good sign.

Lugod: Why did you use the AP1 ECU in the AP2 case? Why not just use the straight AP2 ECU with eManage?
It wasn't my car so I don't have all the details. My speculation was to utilize the higher stock revlimit (9k). At the time I don't believe anyone figured out how to increase the rev count with the stock ap2 ecu in play. Now I believe that has been solved.
You can raise the redline using a Greddy EMU coupled with an AP2 ECU.

Yes, I understand that this was figured out. Back in 2012 I don't believe anyone had a grasp on how to do it.

Is there any reason that a 2004 with eManage would be doomed to make less power than a later year car with full ECU reflash? It seems like with full fuel/spark/VTEC point control, there's not much left to handle that would limit power.

No, with an EMU and a competent tune, you should be able to make comparable power.

The car I ran in 2011 STR Nationals (won day 1, coned day 2 and finished 2nd place overal .002 behind leader) was a 2001 and had a VAFC on it. It barely ran the day before nationals but Mark and I street tuned the car using only intuition and trying going "alot richer" or "alot leaner" to just make the car not hiccup throughout the rev range. Running properly, despite being only a 2.0 liter compared to the 2.2 liter AP2's, that engine made good power for what it was.

Having even a piggy back on these motors will make a huge (subjective) difference in power, especially openining up the midrange with a much lower vtec engagement point. There is power to be had with a reflash or standalone-type system but is incremental compared to the big gains you can get with a piggy back.

I say go for it, 2004 is a plenty capable STR car.

Well, a very well prepped 2007 S2000 (prepared for STR) came up for sale locally. I bought it yesterday. It cost me less to buy that and sell my car than it would have cost to turn my car into an STR car.

I'm pretty pleased!

You probably don't want to hear this now, but I actually suspect the 04-05 is slightly superior to the 06+. It's a little lighter and for some reason they seem to be able to run a lot less fuel. I absolutely need to be higher than 6/10 of a tank at all times or a left hand sweeper will make me fuel starve. I've driven a bunch of 04's and they were all running like 1/4 tank or at least 3/8 tank of fuel. That's a lot of weight.

At the same time tuning is definitely more clunky and annoying with the piggyback. The Flashpro is awesome and very reliable.

Overall there's very little difference between the two though, wouldn't worry about it.

Oh and if I could tell you how many prosolo challenges I've botched because I've left traction control on...ugh, so stupid, lol.

I need to develop a little box that if the key is on and the VSA is not turned off it flashes via heads up display on the windshield "TURN OFF VSA YOU IDIOT".

I would be so much faster that way.

or you know a sticker on your dash or something. heres the steps.

1. acquire label maker
2. input desired reminder in field.
3. print
4. stick somewhere ( on steering wheel or somewhere on dash or tach ) you frequently look at.
5. unicorn farts.

or you can get a little henna tattoo on the back of your hand with the reminder.
