Default 235/45/17 Rubbing in Front

Hey guys,

I posted this in the wheels&tires section also, but I think it may be more suited to the race forum. I bought 235/45/17 Khumo XS tires for stock wheels up front on recommendation from an AutoX buddy of mine. He claimed 235s fit up front without modification, and so I happily bought a set to help with front end grip during my autox events.

But I recently installed them and they ride fine until pushed. Now in hard corners, I hear rubbing. I think it's rubbing on the fender liner. The car is completely stock. Has anyone else had the same problem with 235s on a stock S2k? And will this cause any adverse problems to the car during autox? Thanks!

Have you looked at your fender liner to see where they're rubbing?

Hard corners as in "turning radius" or as in "overdriving the front grip?"

And what's your front alignment at?

I haven't taken a look at the liner yet to see. I've only heard the rubbing. It happens at speed, so not turning radius related. I'm at -1.5 camber as well.

235/40-17 would be a much less rub-prone size choice.

And besides, fronts slightly smaller in diameter than rears looks tons better than fronts larger than rears...

It is possible that 245/40-17 (24.7" OD)would clear better than 235/45-17 (25.4" OD).

Probably true, unfortunately 235/40-17 wasn't available in the Khumo XS. So am I just going to have to deal with the rubbing during AutoX?

I've seen people pinch a 245 Star Spec on a front AP2 rim.

I got a 255 Star Spec on a AP2 front rim. Running stock class street tire, similar alignments. Only thing different may be sway bar but I haven't encountered any rubbing after 4 events. The 235 shouldn't rub, something's not right.

Some people are saying it's the 45 aspect ratio. It very well may be true. I'm going to check the fender liner when I get back to my car to see where the rub is happening.
