Default Aem ecu with abs

Hi all, my s2000 has a aem ecu and the abs has been removed. I’m trying to refit it, does anyone know if the ap2 abs is standalone and can run without the original ecu? I’ve brought a pump but can’t connect with the eobd port

Kinda explained this in your other post. All AP2 ABS is not equal. 04-05 run independent. 06 and newer stuff will look for a loop of signals, including the oem ECU.

J swapping an 06+ AP2 has unfortunately cost a lot, to learn a lot of lessons.

Now I'm curious. Has anyone been able to set up the OEM AP2v2 ABS system to work with a standalone? I'm nowhere near there yet but if an engine let go on me, I'd be tempted to k-swap. This would be another hurdle if it ever came to it for me.

Anyone know if an accord and/or TSX has a similar ABS setup? There's a company that now makes a harness to run a K on a TSX/Accord ECU but there are really no details about it.

Simplistic answer, with my J swap: On AP2V2 cars, the ABS system, traction control and clock spring are kinda linked together, and also gather data from and feed it back through the OEM dash and ECU. One of the critical things it looks for and compares is a tach signal, along with wheel speed, and steering angle. If you use a standalone, the Honda signals are there, however, they are not in the common form (5v) most standalone s would look for. They are in Honda proprietary code. So, in theory if you could find a way to translate the code, or write a program to do so, you might be able to get it to work. I think it’s just simpler to back date to AP2V1 ABS system. FWIW, if you are using OEM ECU, the AP2V2 ABS will work without clock spring signal, but the traction control won’t.

Also, this issue applies to the EPS. EPS is looking for an RPM signal to energize it. Since it’s such a large draw, I think Honda wanted to isolate it till the car was started. You should be able to get the EPS to work, but it won’t be variable assist, due to the loss of OEM tach signal

If I was K swapping, I’d ask ASM Motorsports what they could get to work. They seem to be the experts

EDIT: some years back, Honda in California did a J swap into an AP2V2. My understanding is, they got everything to work thru the regular ECU. I’m guessing that’s because they had the engineering knowledge of how to get the sensor codes to work and run the J, along with the ABS, EPS, etc The car was unfortunately destroyed, because it was a demonstration project (it’s what the s2000 could have evolved to). I’ve never been able to find anyone with inside knowledge, so I could find out what kinda scale all the sensors are based on
