May I ask why they were placed horizontal as compared to vertical?

It better matches the curvature of the hood.
They lay perfectly flat and don't distort the hood this way.

if u look at whats is recommended by aerocatch the installation direction should be like this on mine


and no it doesnt distort the hood at all.

AeroCatch's logic for the direction of install is to ensure that should the latch open to the secondary position aero forces won't cause it to fully open. This is a non issue in the direction I've mounted. I've met with Graham at AeroCatch and have confirmed that it is acceptable to mount the fastener in any orientation.

Your install looks great by the way however it would interfere with the rad/hood ducting I'm building.
