Default Airbox Material Ideas

I'm trying to build an airbox to quiet down my engine bay and go to Laguna Seca.

So far the best ideas I have are:

1- Make a fiberglass box molded from a chicken wire and foil mold - potential problems: I have no experience with fiberglass resin and mounting it to the bucking engine will be a challenge.

2- Crudely enclose the ITB horns in a large aircraft engine heating tube such as the orange one below. This is flexible and easy to remove, will probably look like ass but who cares.

Any other ideas or suggestions? btw, using an OEM hood didn't do anything to muffle sound.

I want to do the same things to my itb setup as well. I was thinking about making something out of carbon fiber.

The main problem for me is fitting it all in there. I have pretty long runners and there isn't a whole lot of room since you want space between the horns and the walls of the plenum.

However, if you figure you have enough room. Fiberglass or carbon fiber is your best bet. Make a mold from wood or foam to whatever shape you want.

yes, the space is so confined; that's the main problem, fiberglass or CF would be ideal but I'm wondering if there are easier materials to work with...

this one is CF I believe...

Sheet metal might be easier than the plastic/cf stuff, wouldn't cardboard be combustible though...

LOL carboard...

Fiberglass isn't too bad because if it turns out ugly, you can sand and paint it afterwards. It's like paper mache for adults haha...

Thats a sweet looking plenum there though!

Looks like the runners curve downwards or else the plenum is totally offset. If I could find the right ID of mandrel bent tubing then I'll be able to free up some space for a plenum. Right now, the horns are pretty close to the hood so I doubt theres room for a plenum.

We'll have to relocated the coolant line and other stuff components.. which isn't such a simple task..

I maybe able to build a plenum to mate up to my air box design. The system is OEM quite, runs at ambient temp, weigh is the same as OEM, makes 6 hp and 8 tq on dyno over stock. It draws all air safe from out side the car and is air tight from under hood heated air. I also had a data log hooked up to the car and it made positive air pressure at speed.

Head of Honda USA, He liked the setup
