Default Another - "are these tires safe of the track"

Alright - I posted regarding bald RE070's and whether they were trackable. The consensuses was no.

They arrived today on the CR rims I purchased and seem to be better than described. The fronts are fine (more than 6/32nd's left). The rear however are down to about 2/32nds

I have posted pictures here:

Now ... since these aren't totally bald - would these be ok to run on a dry track day (as opposed to my smooth bald RE070s I described before) or should I just toss em now and put on my new star specs?

you might get a trackday out of them I tracked some s02's that were bald kinda like that once and drove home 200 miles
the problem is if they start to cord it after a few runs and that would put an end to the day

They actually look OK. But they might be hard as rocks. I definitely would look at them carefully between runs.

Which side usually starts off with power, left or right? Reason I ask is one rear is down to 3/32nds and the other is 2/32nds. Would like to put the more worn tire on the side which starts off with power...

Not sure if our diff works this way... maybe one of you guys know?

I can not say if your tires are safe but put the tire with the most tread on the side that will be on the outside of most of the turns.

but the re070's are directional I believe so you may have to get them flipped to other rim

The tires look fine. I tracked S-02's with less than 2/32, and they were bald by the end of the day. However, when I put on a newer set of S-02's, the increase in grip was very noticeable.

tires look fine. put the tires with more beef in the rear, the s wears the rears out quick and like it was said above. if theres 1 tire with more tread than the others, put that one on the outside rear. just check them between runs and u should be ok

I disagree. On a typical road course, the tire that sees the most wear is the front outside tire. Put your best tire on the front outside; the second best on front inside; the third on rear outside, the worst on rear inside.

Unless it's raining, "directional" makes no difference.

Do you have a super-stiff front bar?
My '01 (which does have more rear roll stiffness bias *and* a ton of outside rear toe-in during cornering) KILLS rear tires at the track, fronts last 2-3 times as long.

Every rwd car I've tracked is harder on rear tires. 240Z, S13 240SX, S14 240SX, LS1 Z28. But the AP1 is by far the most extreme.
