Default AP1 Tuning & 2012 STR rules

I was doing some searching and can't seem to figure out how the AP1 and '04/'05 AP2's are going to be able to legally apply a tune if the 2012 rule change is approved. Which company makes a piggyback solution? I assume a complete ECU change it out, right?

You could piggy back any full replacement ECU. In Japan they piggy back the Motec ECUs. That tell me that could use any standalone ECU in a piggy back configuration.

Greddy Emanage, and Haltec for more capability, and of course the VAFC will still be legal.

How far RPM wise can you take an AP1? What Vtech point?

The mugen ecu was 9200. I'd probably stop there. Vtec is voodoo, switch it where ever it makes the most power with your setup.

That haltech unit looks nice. I can't imagine it leaving anything on the table to the AEMS. I think that one of the other haltechs may have the same usability given the limitations of the STR ruleset, so the 1000 might actually be overkill.

Yea I wouldn't go past 9200. 9500 would like the the ap2's reving to 8800-9000 but is it worth risking? On a very high speed course like Blytheville it might help but on most courses the ap1 would never see 70mph. VTEC point is based on mods. On my car right now 5000rpms feels great. If you as yellowdog (Des) he'll say you my crossover is super smooth! I'd like to try around 4600 but anything under 5k required timing changes and right now I can't do that with my crappy Vtec controller. I would have alot of fun with the PS1000.

Your right the PS1000 might be overkill since the PS500 will do what we need but I rather be overkill then one day wish I had the other. Also resale would be easier with the 1000. awdm has a kit made and evans also was working on a kit. Evans is 10 hours from my house and 30 mins away from some family, So I would drive to evans shop and have him tune it. I've seen dynos of 28hp gain on a ap1 on a haltech. I could only imagine what that would be like.

the 500 only gives you 16x16 tuning ability, the 1000 give you 32x32. You'll get a better tune and prolly better gains with the 1000. When you have $30,000 in setting up a STR car why skimp a few hundard dollars on a tuner?

You know, right about now I'm super happy to be in stock class....

The good news is that it'll be a set of Hoosiers away from BSP...
