Default Autocross

The November issue of Grassroots Motorsports has the first of a series of articles about setting up a MY04 to run its best in AS. Initial article dealt with dial in changes - alignment and tires - changing to BFG g-Force T/A KD tires.

Succeeding articles appear to be headed toward shock changes for more rebound in the rear - there also may be exhaust changes judging from the list of sources.

I have the article and can e-mail to anyone interested. Could not figure out how to attach it.

Good. You don't want to re-publish that material here as it violates site rules with regards to copyright.

Everything those guys learned was from Mr.Sideways driving it and from KenLola smoking them in his '04. The GRM guys have too many toys to play with and never got serious with that car. The sites they used were postage stamp sized and crappy asphalt to boot (I mean crappy even for asphalt). I think they took it to the little track in Gainesville once.

If you want to know how to set it up, ask Ian & Ken. Or better yet, ask Marc McCombs who took 3rd in A-Stock at Nationals in one.

If you go by GRM's set-up tips you'll get it done this time next year and still have an ill-handling car.

How could you know all that when this is the 1st article of the project?

I read the first article that came out a few months ago, so you missed it somehow.

The main office for GRM is on the east coast of FL about mid-way up the peninsula. tmorrow is an autocrossing maniac and has run at the same venues as their tester. He's also pretty well plugged in the the FL autocross scene and did quite well at Nationals himself, so he knows what he's doing. I've been chasing him for nearly the past year ...

They've had the car almost an entire year. In that year, after exhaustive testing, they tweaked their S2000 to the absolute limit of Stock class preparation by making the following changes:
  • new street tires
  • alignment
I agree with tmorrow. GRM's generally a cool magazine, but their S2000 effort has been extraordinarily feeble.

They have project car updates on their web-site.

I love the magazine. They just haven't done anything with the car, that's all.
