Thumbs up Autocross clutch

Hi all, I am setting up my new to me S2000 for autocross. I am swapping in a new AP1 drivetrain into my 01. I will be running 4.77 gears, revalved Koni shocks and coilovers as well as 16x10 wheels with Hoosier road race slicks. I am looking for a clutch that will hold up to drag race type launches and normal street use. This car will be autocross and street use only. NO drag racing. Experienced comments would be preferred. Thanks

Hoosier slicks or R compounds? Sounds like you're planning on running a prepared class (gears, etc.) although R compounds would put you in SM2. Since you have the 4.77s, launching will be easier than the stock 4.10s that the rest of us have been using. The stock clutch works fine *as long as you don't slip it*. It's generally not the clutch that's the problem with drop-clutch launches - it's the rest of the powertrain that's apt to break over time.

For starters, I wouldn't worry about the clutch as long as it's not slipping...

Yes, I will run slicks and am going to a Mod class, D or E. I could run prepared but I will try mod where I know some other people in the class. It looks like I will most likely try a Centerforce Dual friction setup. The disc will be able to take some abuse if I need to slip it etc. Might be a little easier on the rest of the drivetrain as well. I am going to keep the stock flywheel and give it a try.

we ran a full national season and 2 years of locals, upwards of 60 events in the last two years on a stock clutch and it lasted 3 1/2 years in the car.

I'm pretty sure there is no worse clutch than a centerforce. Stay away from that one. I've heard people are quite happy with their ACT clutch kits. I've been pleased with ACT in my other cars.

btw, people who have auto-xed with the 4.77 gears say that the gears are too short and they hurt your times becuase you have to go to 3rd gear. It's pretty common knowledge that having to go to 3rd gear sucks and you don't want to have to do it. That's the biggest problem with the AP2 besides the wimpy springs and "tamed" rear suspension geometry.

ACT HD clutch plate with your choice of disc should be good. Be prepared as the pedal pressure is pretty heavy afterwards

I run Fidanza + ACT HD PP, its twice as stiff as OEM AP2, if you've got $$$$ go for OS Giken or Ogura, then tell me how they are , Carbonetics also looks like it would be a good investment since carbon dissipates heat better and it will last longer (supposedly)
