The gearings will soley depend on the track you run.
I have used 4.44, 4.57 and the 4.77 at our local track, PIR in Seattle.

I assume you use 4.57 at PIR I am interested in hearing your feedback on it...what were your laptime before and after, shift points etc?

The 4.44's was great from turn 8 till turn 2; the front side. The shift points were good at the front, but the back side made me shift more front 3rd to 4th then back to 3rd and then up 4th again, and with the bumps at the back, the gears made it hard to keep the car balanced.
The 4.77's were good on the back side. I can keep the car in 4th gear almost through 4-6 and still have enough power ro propel me up the hill without having to wait for VTEC to hit like with the stock gearings. The 4.77's were bad for the front side though, on a good lap, I can hit redline in 6th gear before the start of turn 2 and pretty much maxed out my car which caused me some time.
The 4.57's were just BAD overall at that track, there was a few crutial turns that made it hard to determine which gear was the best to go into the turn with. Plus the whinning wasn't that attractive either.

As a few others have mentioned, it depends on the track. There is an excellent discussion of this in Race Car Engineering by Paul Vanvalkenburg.

Pretty much decided on the 4.44's since Its not that big of a step up. I also am looking to improve my flat out take off.

I have 4.77s and they suck for more reasons than I care to explain. I'm going back to stock 4.10s on the race car.
