I have cross drilled and slotted spugen rotors and steal braided lines.... have green stuff pads and they are awful on the track. can someone recomend to me a great pad for 90% street use and 10% track use, plan on doing about 4-6 events per years tops... one day events and they have 4 - 20 min sessions on the track... so 80 min of track time 5 times a year about total...
Finally I painted my calipers red a years or so back and have some chips, I used some special paint everyone recomended, had to mix it, think it was german or something etc... anyone know the name of that caliper paint and if its OK to use to touch up some chips...?
oh and best place to order them online... thanks again all.
Thanks
steve

Since race and street pads are mutually exclusive, do you swap the race pads for street pads (and vice versa) at the track then?
If so, do tracks generally have the tools for you to do the swap? Thnx

I track, autox, and drive my s2k on the street. I've used these pads:
OEM - good for street, burnt up in 20 laps on the track
Carbotech Panther Plus - some squeek on the street, tolerable dust. Worked on the track with street tires very well. When I switched to r compounds, I needed a more aggressive pad.
Hawk Blue - DO NOT drive on the street! Nasty corrosive dust that ruins wheels and paint if not cleaned right away.
Cobalt GT - Kinda dusty, I'd always get dust on my ankles getting in/out of the car. Squeeks on the street. Good for street tires, not enough brake torque for my r comps.
Carbotech XP8 - currently using on the rear. I like them a lot. If I was going to spec just one pad street/track, this would be it.
Carbotech XP10 - more agressive than the 8. Some dust, but it washes right off. Not much rotor wear. I've been street driving with these pads on the front, because I'm too lazy to switch.
YMMV

Yes, the GT Sports are a decent compromise pad. I guess whether they're "good enough" for track use depends on the rubber being used. For street rubber, probably yes but for R compounds with even a semi-competent driver, I have a harder time recommending them for that use.
They are lightyears beyond the OEM or equivalent pads for track use of course but they do make noise on the street, there's no getting around that.

Hey guys, I wanted to ask about bedding the pads when it comes to switching them out often.
So here's what has me thinking about this situation: My hawk HP+ pads usually squeak like hell on the street but after a track day last weekend I haven't changed them out and they aren't squeaking. They don't bite as hard as they used to either. They have plenty of pad left too. I guess my fluid needs changed cause the pedal feels kinda soft but it's not horrible.
So, did they not work as well this time because I didn't sand the rotors and I didn't re-bed the pads? I imagine the rotors still had much OEM pad material on them.
BTW, HP+ didn't work too well with the r-comps... but being a track novice, I guess the dot 4 fluid could attribute to the overall lack of brake power.

I personally swap both pads and rotors as a set so I don't have to deal with different pad compounds and bedding in issues. My brakes have been a lot more consistance since I started doing that.
