best tire for me?
tried to do a search but couldnt get anything.
im looking for 2 new rear tires.
what should i go with if i plan to:
use my s2k for autoX (for fun not all out competition)
and as a daily driver...
...
a very 'spirited'
daily driver!
should i stick with the so2's, or maybe piolt sports, or s03's?
What other questions should i ask or statements should i make to make a better desicion?
What setups to you Rac. and Comp. people use in the same postion?
Thanks
James

The consensus seems to be that the stock tires are pretty good. The main alternatives seem to be cheaper but not so sticky. If I go to race tires this year, I'm probably going to buy some Khumos or Yokos for my street tires. If I continue to race Street Tire Class, I'm planning on sticking with the S02's unless the Azenis becomes available in the sizes I want.

I agree with Robin's advise - the stock tires are about as good as it gets for a combination street/autocross tire. Once you do some events and decide it's for you, most people invest in a second set of wheels with dedicated autocross tires like Kumho V700s or Hoosier A3SO3s. Both of these are legal for stock class, but I wouldn't want to drive on them in the rain on public roadways

thanks for the advice fellas. i thought that would be a good choice.
Is tire rack the best place to get them or is there a better...er...ummm....cheaper (yeah thats the word im looking for) spot to get s02. and what is the difference between s02 and s02 pole positions?

You might find a slightly better price elsewhere, but Tire Rack is pretty good, so you'll save maybe $5 per tire at the most, as far as I've seen.
I think the main way to save money is to buy a cheaper tire. I doubt the performance difference will be that great in street driving, but if you're looking for that extra .1 of a second during competition, you need the best tires you can get. I wouldn't be surprised if the difference between an S-02 and a Khumo only amounted to a couple of tenths during a race, but I've never AutoX'ed the S2000 on anything other than its S-02's. I think I came up with the fastest time for ANY car on street tires at the last practice event I went to. But I was still over 3 seconds off the time set by last year's SS champ in his Z-06 on Hoosiers.
I used to drive my Corvette around on Racing Tires, sometimes in the rain. They're OK at low speeds if you're not driving through puddles, but they started to hydroplane at about 55 mph on a non-grooved freeway in moderate rain. You could go a little faster than that if the freeway was grooved. The S2000 has smaller tires, so it might fare a little better in the rain, but I wouldn't recommend it. This from personal experience. Steet tires for the street.

Do you mean that the Khumo's would be more than a few tenths slower?
I meant the difference between the S-02 and Khumo street tires would be a couple of tenths. (the Khumo's would be slower, I figure). Race tires should be at least a couple of seconds faster than the S-02's. (I'm hopin for three seconds actually...)
Sorry for my vagueness. In any case, I've never driven on Khumos of any sort. I'm just going with what I've been told and tempering it with my own experience.

I have run on both of the Kumho R compound and the Ectsa street compound both on the Miata and the Honda.....there is no comparison.
Oh wait...the street version squells like a pig in heat and is SSSSSLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW.
