Default best wheel/tire combo for my04

With the stock my04 suspension what has been the most competetive tire size for solo I and or solo II? I would like stay with stock 17's but I realize not all tire manufacturers make matching tire sizes. I don't think Hoosiers are available in Canada. Will I have to go with a different width tire, front and rear, than 2004 stock?

That's funny, I just started a similar thread a few days ago.

Looking for 16" wheels

I think a lot of the info you're looking for should be in there. It's funny, I'm picking my car up on Tuesday and it's also a 2004 Solar Yellow Pearl! I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do this, but I think I'm going to buy a set of 2000-2003 wheels and use them on the street. On the stock 17s I'll try running 245s in the front with 275s in the rear. I really believe bigger are better.

As far as tire choices go, you can definitely get Hoosiers in Canada. If worst comes to worst you can always get them shipped from Tire Rack. I think Cheap Thrills in Milton can order anything from Tire Rack for you, and they save a lot with shipping. At least with wheels that's always been the case.

Finding tires in that size is a bit tough, but it looks like those R compound Hankooks will work. They should be very similar in performance/durability as Toyo RA1s, from what I hear. You can also use Kumho Ecsta V700s, which will definitely be stickier, just not quite as durable.

If you use a 16" wheel for your race tires, the best bet is to get stock 2000-2003 wheels. They're cheap. The sizes to get are 225s in the front with 245s in the rear. Pretty much any race tire will be available in those sizes.

Which series(es) are you planning on running in for Solo 2? WOSCA? Or will you be making regular trips to Toronto? Or SCCA stuff? Are you thinking of running the SoloOntario Solo 1 series? Are you on their message board? There's already someone named finboy there, any relation? Have I asked enough questions?

Thanks for the info!
I haven't decided if I will run the Ontario Solo I or II series'. Keep an eye on the Toronto S2ki board for local solo II events. Twin Lakes in Barry usually have a full series through out the Summer as well as the Corvette club in Oakville. T.A.C. in Markham used to have Solo II events. Probably the only Shannonville runs I will make will be Speedstar track days. I was involved in the Ontario Solo I and II series' several years ago. I prefer the local club events.
I am on the Solo Ontario board sometimes. Same name as here.

The regional Solo 2 series can be a lot of driving, especially from Guelph since most of the events are in the east. I've always liked the Corvette club events, since they're usually pretty laid back about things.

What were you driving before? I'm sure we marshalled together some time.

You have to go way back to '91 '92 '93' 94.
I had my beloved red '87 CRX Si in the street prepared class. Ran regional solo II and just Solo I in '93.

I have 17" SSR Comps and I ran V700's last year (225/45 and 255/40). You can also run the same size using Michelin Sport Cups. However, the Kumho are a much better (and less expensive) tire IMHO.

I am running the new Azenis 615's this year. I'm hoping they'll be as good as the old 215's that I ran in my old ITR.
